ARRIVE READY TO SWIM!

WEATHER - Weather affecting visibility such as rain or potential storms will be caused to cancel the event. Winds above 14 knots or gusts above 20 knots will be caused to cancel or delay the event. Weather will be tracked with Radar Now, Weather Bug or other apps that display and forecast the DCA/Sterling Washington/Dulles radar feeds. Cancellation or delay will be the responsibility of the Race Director.

Tide is flood creating primarily a northern direction cross current to the course (toward the Wilson Bridge). Kayakers will be stationed throughout the course primarily at each buoy throughout the course. Any swimmers migrating north under the Wilson Bridge will be directed back on course or powered watercraft will be requested to bring them back to shore. If the flood tidal current is strong enough, kayakers will shift to provide a buffer between the bridge and swimmers.

Race will not be started until we are 3 hours clear of any pending electrical weather activity. If an emergency occurs, water will be cleared immediately. Slower swimmers will be picked up in first in the area of the emergency with motorized boats. There is no rain date.

Volunteers: Swimmers and their families are welcome to volunteer to help run the swim. If you are interested, please send an email to info@waveoneswimming.com to volunteer. Thank you!

Over 100 Swimmers complete Washington’s Crossing - Historic 2-Way Potomac Swim

Update and Results Aug 23, 2020 - WaveOne Open Water and National Harbor hosted the first open water swimming race of 2020 in America. Fantastic swimming with a ton of fun highlighted the long awaited swim in the Nation’s River. Overwhelming congratulations go to all the swimmers who participated in the 9th Washington’s Crossing: Swim Across the Potomac. A glorious morning welcomed the first ever 2-Way event of swimmers paced by Ronan Lauinger in a time of 56:10, followed close behind by Lexie Vanderloo at 56:34, both age 17. Jimmy Ross completed the 2.5 mile swim as the first adult swimmer at 1:05:54, followed by the top masters swimmer, Syril Petit in a time of 1:13:29.

On a course adapted to reflect, but not succumb to the current era, Erin Gemmel swam the Single Distance of 1.25 miles churning the water with a time of 25:19. Jordan Kelly rode her wake in a time of 25:40. Both are 15. Caitlin Daday led the adult field at 30:10 and Margaret Conze out swam the masters in a time of 31:44.

Clearly, the fast swimming released the pent up race energy of the past few months. Athletes aged from 11 through 80 splashed into the Potomac with enthusiastic fervor and determination. Special thanks go to National Harbor and Oasis Marinas for opening up the venue and enabling us to create an awesome event. Enormous gratitude goes out to our WaveOne Crew and volunteers whose on-water and land support provide a healthy, positive interaction and memorable experience for all the swimmers.
